Overview

The WILMALL TDGC2 variac is a hand-operated AC voltage regulator built around a toroidal auto-transformer and a carbon brush wiper. Turning the front knob moves the brush along the exposed winding track, so output voltage changes smoothly and steplessly from zero to line voltage – no electronics, no switching noise, just a direct copper-to-carbon contact that has powered test benches for decades.

What Makes the WILMALL TDGC2 Dependable

Every unit leaves our Yueqing workshop with the same checklist, regardless of whether it is a 500VA lab unit or a 30KVA workshop model:

  • Copper, not aluminium. The toroidal winding uses class-B insulated copper magnet wire, so the resistance stays low and the output voltage holds steady under load.
  • Carbon brush grade matters. We fit a longer-life carbon brush compound than generic spares; it seats cleanly on the winding track and only needs replacement after tens of thousands of turns.
  • Ventilation geometry. The shell is punched with a full ventilation pattern, keeping the winding below 60°C rise even at nameplate rating in a warm workshop.
  • Fire-safe enclosure. The powder-coated steel shell is fully flame retardant, so a shorted load or overheated winding cannot feed a fire outside the case.
  • Every unit is tested. Insulation resistance (above 5MΩ), 2000V/1min dielectric withstand and a loaded output check are recorded before packing.

Where Our Customers Put It to Work

The TDGC2 shows up in more places than you might expect:

  • R&D benches where engineers simulate “mains stress” by sweeping an appliance from 100V to 250V and watching for brownout behaviour.
  • Motor workshops pre-running a single phase motor below rated speed to verify winding balance before handing it back to the client.
  • Hotels and restaurants dimming ballroom lighting without installing dedicated dimmer racks.
  • Heat-treatment shops regulating electric furnace element power in small batches.
  • Export QC lines checking 120V US appliances on 220V mains – the variac steps the bench supply to exactly 120V.
  • Schools and technical colleges demonstrating AC power control to electrical apprentices.

How to Choose the Right Rating

  • Add up the wattage of everything you will connect at once.
  • Resistive loads (heaters, lamps): choose a rating 1.2-1.3x the load.
  • Inductive loads (motors, transformers): choose 2-3x the load – inrush current is several times running current.
  • Uncertain? Start with our transformer sizing calculator, then confirm with us before ordering.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I still need a separate voltmeter?

Not if you order the LCD display option – the front panel shows input and output voltage live. The standard version has a rotary dial scale, which is fine for rough settings.

Can the TDGC2 step 110V up to 220V?

Yes – order the 110V-input version and it works in reverse as a step up regulator. Tell us your input voltage when ordering.

What is the maximum current I can draw?

It depends on the model: 2A at 500VA up to 120A at 30KVA. The dial plate marks the current limit for your model – stay under it.

Do you make a three phase version?

Yes – see the TSGC2 three phase variac in the same category, or tell us your kVA and input voltage.

Ordering and Warranty

MOQ is 10 pcs with a 15-25 day lead time. We can brand the enclosure, fit your plug type, and supply 110V or 0-300V builds. Every order carries a 12-month warranty. Send your spec and we will quote within 24 hours – or browse the full variable transformer range for other options.

Frequently asked questions

How does the TDGC2 variac work?

It is a hand-operated AC voltage regulator built around a toroidal auto-transformer and a carbon brush wiper. Turning the knob moves the brush along the winding track for smooth, stepless output from zero to line voltage – no electronics and no switching noise.

What sizes are available?

The TDGC2 series covers 500VA up to 30kVA single phase. Tell us your load and we will match the right rating.

Where are TDGC2 variacs used?

Typical uses include voltage regulation for testing, electroplating, heaters, motors, lighting dimming, and any bench or factory job that needs continuously variable AC voltage.

Is the output voltage adjustable continuously?

Yes – output moves steplessly from 0V to about the line voltage (250V class) as you turn the knob, holding any setting in between.

What are the MOQ, lead time and warranty?

Made-to-order MOQ is 10 pcs, lead time 15-25 days (in-stock 3-5 days). CE/RoHS on request and a 12-month warranty apply.
